In Memory of Professor Farzad Sharifian
(1964 - 2020)
With deepest sadness and sorrow, the Journal of English Language Pedagogy and Practice informs the unexpected passing of the prominent member of its Editorial Board, Professor Farzad Sharifian. As a founder and leader in multidisciplinary cultural linguistics, professor Sharifian was a highly dedicated and awarded educator and researcher who made extensive contributions to modern linguistics, in particular, in the areas of intercultural communication, cross-cultural international pragmatics, emotion, Teaching English as an International Language (TELL), World Englishes and political discourse to name a few. Professor Sharifian provided us new ways of looking at culture and language. He was the founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Language and Culture, the Series Editor of Cultural Linguistics book series and the Series Editor of Routledge Advances in Teaching English as an International Language and held the Chair in Cultural Linguistics at Monash University. Professor Sharifian will be adoringly remembered as a decent teacher for his inspiring mentoring and incredible academic contributions. The Journal of English Language Pedagogy and Practice expresses its deepest condolences upon the passing of this prolific scholar. He will be missed immensely.
